Violinist IRINA MURESANU
Romanian-born violinist Irina Muresanu is a cultural architect whose work spans five continents, bridging performance, scholarship, and technology. Her acclaimed program Four Strings Around the World — featuring commissioned works from Chickasaw, Indian, Nigerian, Iranian, and Jamaican composers alongside Bach and Paganini — has been called "illuminating" by the Boston Globe and was the subject of a groundbreaking VR collaboration with the University of Maryland.
In June 2027, she will give the world premiere of Hattak Hiloha by Jerod Impichchaachaaha' Tate — the first violin concerto by an American Indian composer.
A laureate of the Queen Elisabeth and Montreal International competitions, Fulbright Scholar, and NSF-funded researcher in AI and music education, Muresanu is Professor at the University of Maryland with affiliations at UMIACS and UMD's AI Institute. She plays an 1849 Giuseppe Rocca violin and a Dominique Peccatte bow.
